      451. CROWELL, J. H., AND BENSON, H. E.  (The United States of America as Represented by the secretary of the Interior).  Catalytic Conversion of Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen to Hydrocarbons and Oxygenated Organic Compounds.  United States Patent 2,617,810.  Nov. 11, 1952: appl. Filed Oct. 11, 1950, Serial No. 189,639: 16 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).  Chem. Abs., vol. 47. 1953. p. 1360.

Give means for improving the usage ratio and allowing operation at lower temperature in catalytic conversion of CO and H2 to hydrocarbons and oxygenated organic compounds.  The catalyst is immersed directly in a cooling liquid.  A stream of the cooling liquid is withdrawn from the reaction zone.  Synthesis feed gas, both fresh and recycle gas, is passed in countercurrent contact with the liquid coolant treated for the removal of H2O and other normally liquid products stripped from the cooling liquid and then conducted to the reaction zone to provide the major portion of the synthesis gas feed.  3 United States patents cited.
