Production of Industrial Gases Containing Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen. United States Patent 2,607,668, Aug. 19, 1952; original appl. filed Aug. 12, 1947, divided and this appl. filed Feb. 4, 1948, Serial No. 6,226; 11 claims (Cl. 48-196). Gaseous hydrocarbons can be converted into synthesis gas by contacting them at about 1,600º F. with and O carrier consisting essentially of a major proportion (90 wt. %) of titania mixed with a minor proportion of an oxide of Fe, Ni, Co, Mn, Cr, and W. Example: Various runs were made using TiO2 and an addition agent composed of Fe2O3, 80; Cr2O3, 10; and NiO, 10 wt. %. When using 6 wt. % of this composite agent the CH4 conversion was almost 80%, and the selectivity to CO was nearly 100% without C formation. When used alone TiO2 caused only 9.6% conversion. This particular addition agent was most effective when used in amounts 3-7%. Other examples presented. |
