441.          441. CORNER, E. S., MCGEE, R. V. J., AND LYNCH, C. S. (Standard Oil Development Co.).  Oxygen Carrier for the Oxidation of Gaseous Hydrocarbons.  United States Patent 2,507,502, May 16, 1950.  Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950. p. 7046.

Oxidation of gaseous hydrocarbons to CO and H2 through reaction with metal oxides at 1.600°-2,000° F. is carried out by using an O2 carrier containing TiO2 84-97% by weight and 3-6% of a blend of Fe2O3, 80% NiO, 10%; and Cr2O3, 10%.  For oxidation of CH4 the carrier should contain 90% TiO2 with the remainder composed as before.  The process is best carried out by fluidized technique, and the composition of the carrier is selected according to its suitability for fluidized operation.
