Schmidt, J., Das Kohlenoxyd, Akad. Verlagsgesell., Leipzig, 1950, p. 173; Chem. Abs., vol. 21, 1927, p. 2978. Coal-distillation gases, which may be partly dehydrogenated, are passed under high temperature and pressure over a metallic oxide catalyst, for example, over Fe2O3 at 300º-600º under 400 atm. pressure, and then, after cooling and removal of condensed products, are passed over a catalyst having a polymerizing and condensing action at normal or increased pressure, for example, over activated C at 100º-400º. Alcohols are obtained in the first stage and hydrocarbons in the second. See also French Patent 613,541 (abs. 410). |
