      396.            COLLIER, R. T.  Method for making Oil gas and Water Gas.  United States Patent 2,634,197, Apr. 7, 1953; appl. filed Oct. 9, 1944, Serial No. 557,818; 4 claims (Cl. 48-197).  Chem. Abs., vol. 47, 1953, p. 6123.

Water gas is formed as a byproduct.  Steam is blown over the heated refractory material as it passes between the reaction zone and the heating zone.  The steam reacts with the carbonaceous material adhering to the refractory material as a result of pyrolysis.  Water-gas formation is continuous to permit heating the refractory material alternative to the formation of water gas.  3 foreign and 7 United States patents cited.
