In the use of solid adsorbents for separating the products of synthesis from H₂-CO mixtures, the unsynthesized gas mixture is passed through the regenerated adsorbent to dry and cool the latter. A further advantage is that the final traces of impurities are thereby removed from the crude gas mixture. When the original water gas has been enriched in H₂ by catalytic treatment of a portion thereof with steam, this converted portion is preferably used for the drying and cooling, its CO₂ content being thereby reduced.
