United States Patent 2,278,644, Apr. 7, 1942; appl. filed June 26, 1939, Serial No. 281,152; in Germany July 1, 1938; 6 claims (Cl. 23-23). Chem. Abs., vol. 36, 1942, p. 4982. Process is employed for recovering Th values of high catalytic activity, virtually free from Fe, Ni, Co, Al2O3 and SiO2, from spent Th catalysts containing substantial amounts of Fe, such as those used in the production of hydrocarbons from CO and H2, which involves treating them at a moderately elevated temperature with an inorganic acid to extract the catalytically active constituents, adding to the resulting acid solution a soluble carbonate to produce a precipitate rich in Th, dissolving this precipitate in H2SO4, precipitating the Th from the H2SO4 solution as Th K sulfate, and converting the latter into insoluble Th hydrocarbonate. |
