British Chem. Abs., B, 1926, p. 954; chem. Abs., vol. 21. 1927, p. 2551. Production of light oils from gases containing CO and H2 is effected in the cylinder of a compressor; the reaction is carried out during the compression stroke in such a manner that as the pressure is increasing heat is abstracted, and, at the same time the concentrations of the gases are increase by injecting reacting gases into the reaction space. The compressor may be in the form of a diesel engine, and water gas, coke-oven gas, producer gas, illuminating gas, and blast furnace gas may be used, with addition of H2 if necessary. Catalysts may be used and among the products obtained are: MeOH and higher alcohols, CH2O, other aldehydes, ketones and HOAc, and other acids. The reactions are exothermic and may be utilized for heating or developing power. |
