Exothermic Catalytic Gas Reactions Such as Ammonia Synthesis. United States Patent 1,893,492, Jan. 10, 1933; appl. filed Dec. 31, 1928. Chem. Zentralb., 1933, II, p. 3192; Chem. Abs., vol. 27, 1933, p. 2255. Reactions under pressure and at an elevated temperature are initiated by passing the compressed gases, at a temperature lower than that at which the catalyst for the main reaction will function, into contact with a priming catalyst that is suitable for catalyzing an exothermic reaction at a lower temperature, and the heated gases are then passed into contact with the catalyst for the main reaction. Describes apparatus. The process is suitable for the synthetic production of MeOH or higher alcohols from CO and H2. BRITISH CELANESE, LTD. See abs. 71, 72, 73, 74, 519, 2570, 3748. |
