British Patent 342,854, Dec. 31, 1928. Chem. Abs., vol. 25, 1931, p. 4364. Heat required for initiation of gaseous exothermic catalytic reactions carried out under pressure at high temperatures is supplied from an auxiliary catalytic exothermic reaction of like gases, to which other gases may be added temporarily id desired, which serves to heat initially the apparatus and catalyst used for the main reaction. Describes various details of apparatus and procedure. In the production of NH3 from a N2H2 mixture derived from water gas, the amount of CO purification may be reduced and the gases passed over a low-temperature CH4-forming catalyst to initiate the NH3 synthesis. Describes production of homologs of MeOH from CO and H2 also. |
