Continuously operating chamber oven is adapted for the production of town gas, synthesis gas, water gas, and coke from bituminous coal, the distillates formed in the upper part of the chamber passing downward with the coke, the water gas obtained by the admission of steam to the lower part of the chamber reacting if required with the distillates from the upper part. The composition of the gas is controlled by regulating the proportion of the heating surface of the upper part to that of the lower part by regulated gas withdrawal in combination with regulated heating of the predistillation zone, distillation zone, and gasification zone and steam introduction at various levels. |
