      192.            BLACK, J. F., AND KLEARRY, K. K.  (Standard Oil Development Co.).  [Catalysts for the Conversion of Carbon Monoxide With Hydrogen.]  French Patent 970,823, Jan. 9, 1951; appl. filed Apr. 28, 1948, Chem. Zentralb., 1952, I, p. 1269.

Catalysts comprise mainly Fe and a metal soluble in alkaline solutions such as Si or Al.  The mixture is applied in the form of an alloy containing 85% Fe and 15% Si.  The catalyst particles contain in their outer layers a larger % of Fe than do the inner layers.  To accomplish this the catalyst particles are treated with NaOH or K2CO3 solution, which dissolves out a part (1.5-3%) of the Si in the outer layers.  According to an example, aqueous solutions containing 15-20% NaOH or a corresponding amount of K2CO3 are used.
