PATENTS 186. ------. [BILISOLY, J. P.] (Standard Oil Development Co.). Hydrocarbon Synthesis Process. United States Patent 2,496,265, Feb. 7, 1950: appl. Filed July 25, 1944. Serial No. 546,583: 12 claims (Cl. 260-449.6). Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950. p. 3701. Silica Hydrogel is prepared by reaction of an aqueous sodium silicate solution with H2SO4. HCl, or HNO3. After the mixture sets, it is washed to remove the water-soluble salts of the hydrogenation type metals of the VII group and the water soluble sales of difficulty reducible metal oxides. The excess solutions are drained. The gel is dried and treated to the lowest temperature necessary to effort decomposition of the metal salts. The catalyst is ground to a 20 to 200-micron size and reduced in a stream of H2 temperature 600°-800° F., space velocity 4,000-6,000 vol. Feed gas per volume catalyst per hr. for 1-4 hr. Before reduction the H2O content may be reduced 6-10%, The gel carrier may be spherically shaped. 1 literature ref., 1 foreign patent, and 10 United States patents cited. |
