PATENTS 166. ------. [BEDFORD, F., AND WILLIAMS, C. E.] (Cedford Gas Process Co.). Catalytic Synthesis of Methane. United States Patent 989,755, Apr. 18, 1911. Chem. Abs., vol. 5, 1911, p. 3283. Catalytic synthesis of CH4 from a commercial gas containing H2 and CO-for example, Mond or Duff gas-by cooling, after removal of CO2, to separate out in the solid form at -190° impurities having little or no vapor tension: separating the purified gas into its constituents, such as by absorption of CO by Cu2Cl2 and subsequent heating to recover the CO: and mixing the CO thus obtained with H2 in the required quantity and passing the mixture into contact with a heated catalyst such as Ni.
