      143.     ------.  [BARR, F. T.] (Standard Oil Development Co.).  Temperature Control in the Catalytic Hydrogenation of Carbon Oxides.  United States Patent 2,256,969. Sept. 23, 1941: appl. filed June 12, 1940.  Serial No. 340,062: 5 claims (Cl. 260-446).  Chem. Abs., vol. 36, 1942. pp. 249-250.

Describes apparatus, and a process employed for removing the heat of reaction and maintaining a relatively constant temperature in a reaction involving the hydrogenation of oxides of C for producing hydrocarbon constituents containing more than 1 c atom in the molecule that comprises passing feed gases containing oxides of C and H2 in contact with a suitable catalyst under conditions adapted to hydrogenate the oxides of C whereby exothermic heat as it is evolved by utilizing a sufficient quantity of the catalyst and by absorbing the same as sensible heat of the catalyst, separating the heated catalyst from the reaction zone, removing the heat of reaction therefrom by cooling and again utilizing the cooled catalyst in the reaction zone.
