In the manufacture of MeOH and other oxygenated organic compounds by catalytic hydrogenation of C oxides, by using heat, pressure, and a catalyst, mixtures are used containing a high % of inert gases, or a large excess of 1 of the reacting gases that serves as a diluent, and the operation is conducted in a circulatory system with continuous removal of part of the mixture enriched in inert gases and replacement by fresh gas mixture.
