Oxygenated compounds of a higher order than MeOH are obtained by passing a mixture of CO or CO2 with H₂ at an elevated temperature and pressure over a MeOH-forming catalyst but at a diminished speed as compared with that required for the formation of MeOH under otherwise similar conditions.  Gives numerous examples and details.
