Cuprous halide catalyst, such as Cu₂Cl₂ is used for treating a gas mixture obtained by the partial conversion of a mixture of CO₂ and H₂ to CO and H₂O.  Temperatures of 50°-150° and pressures of 20 atm. or higher may be used.
