Following values are calculated from existing equilibrium data on CH4-H2 and CO-CO2 mixtures over austenite and Fe3C:3a-Fe+C=Fe3C:∆F298=9,300 cal., ∆H298 12,300 cal., ∆S298=9.9 cal., S298=3.8 cal. per degree.  From its free energy of formation, Fe3C is stable above 750°.  Austenite behaves as an ideal solution and follows Raoult’s law.
