Gaseous phase in the reaction 2CC+2H2=CO2+CH4 reaches an equilibrium at a composition of 37.1% CO, 37.6% H2, 13.3% CO2, and 8.7% CH4, corresponding thermodynamically to 900°-950° K.  Contraction continues, however, and the end products are C and H2O.
