It has been found that moist CO and H2 react to form small amounts of CH4, the proportions at 400°, after absorption of CO and CO2, being H2 99.8% and CH4 0.2% and at 1,300°, 98.65% and 1.35%.  The catalytic effect of various mineral constituents of the ash of gas coke on the formation of CH4 is discussed.
