Optimum reduction temperature for Co catalysts prepared by roasting is lower and the decrease in activity from using high reduction temperatures is greater than for precipitated Co catalysts.  The amount of kieselguhr in the roasted catalysts must be increased to raise their activity.  The decrease in activity of roasted Co catalysts is greatest when Mn is used as a promoter, less the heavier ThO2, and least with the heaviest U3O8.
