Objectives to be considered are the development of the tar distillation industry and the extraction of C2H4 from coke-oven gas.  The statement is made that the Northeast provides one of the most suitable areas in the country for large-scale trials of the Fischer-Tropsch process.  The County of Durham, with its large coke-producing units and potential reservoirs of surplus gas, is eminently well-placed for this research work, and the products made by the Fischer-Tropsch process may be linked with those from the C2H4 extraction plant.
