It is evident from the results of experiments performed with a catalyst of reduced Ni base on kieselguhr under ordinary pressure and at a space velocity of 100 and using various mixtures of CO, H2, and CH4, that with all the mixtures analyzing at least 50% of CH4, this gas is consume din various amounts, small at 190° but increasing until at 175° nearly 1 vol. of it is consumed for each 2 vol. of CO in spite of an excess of H2 in the mixture of reagents.  The work summed up in this paper demonstrates that in the presence of suitable catalysts, CH4 participates in the Fischer-synthesis reaction and in the conversion of aliphatic chains.
