Catalysts 60 Cu:35.6 ZnO:4.4 Cr2O3 and 16 ZnO:Cr2O3:82 Cu containing 0.1-5 mol. % KOH were used in MeOH synthesis from CO2 and H2.  The catalysts showed great activity at pressures up to 100 atm. and at an initial temperature of 200°.  The product consisted chiefly of MeOH and EtOH (22.3% by weight).  By increasing the volume speeds the yield of EtOH is increased and MeOH is decreased.  The catalyst 82 Cu:16 ZnO:Cr2O3 is more suited for EtOH formation and is more stable.
