2585. PATART, G. [Synthesis of Methanol by the Reduction of Carbon Monoxide.] Compt. rend., vol. 179, 1924, pp. 1330-1332; Chem. Abs., vol. 19, 1925, p. 814. Mixture of CO and H2, 1:2, by vol. was circulated in a closed system for 3 hr. Pure ZnO, granular or suspended on asbestos, was used as a catalyst at 400°-420° and 150-259 atm. In a portion of the system cooled to 20° a liquid composed almost entirely of H2O and MeOH collected. At the end of the run the volume of CO and H2 remaining was about 1:1. Gives complete analyses of the gas mixtures before and after the experiment. |
