1803. ---------------. [KOBAYASHI, K., YAMAMOTO, K., AND ISHIKAWA, H.] Synthetic Petroleum From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen. Jour. Fuel Soc. Japan, vol. 9, 1930, p. 40.
Paper presented at the 33d annual meeting of the Society of Chemical Industry, Japan. In the synthesis of petroleum, it is necessary, first of all, to explain the mechanism of the reaction, which can be divided into the following 4 stages: (1) Decomposition of CO into CO2 and C, the latter in a nascent state; (2) the reaction between CO and H2 with CH4 and H2O as the products; (3) production of C2H4 and C2H2 from C liberated in stage 1; (4) condensation of C2H4 and C2H2 into petroleum. To obtain the maximum yield of petroleum, it is important to accelerate reactions 1 and 3 and depress 2 as far as possible. For this purpose, the reactions must be carried out separately in the production of C2H4 and C2H2 on the one hand and the condensation of those products on the other.
