1624. JOHNSTON, A. F., AND GRAYSON-SMITH, H. Magnetic Susceptibilities of Iron-Group Salts at Low-Temperatures. Canadian Jour. Research, vol. 28 A, 1950, pp. 229-241; Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 8178.
Magnetic balance of the Sucksmith-ring type is described. This apparatus is used to measure the susceptibilities of hydrated and anhydrous Cr2 (SO4)3 and the nitrates of Cr, Co, and Ni. The presence of small amounts of ferromagnetic impurity is corrected by making measurements at several values of the field strength. The reciprocal susceptibility 1/χ is plotted against the absolute temperature to evaluate the Weiss constant θ.
