Ferromagnetic CrO2 was prepared by heating CrO2Cl2. This gave a mixture of approximately equal parts of CrO2 and a solid solution of O2 in Cr2O3 corresponding to (8 Cr2O3+O). The exact proportions of the 2 constituents in a particular specimen were deduced from its loss in weight when the whole was converted into Cr2O3 by calcining at 900°. Magnetic studies made of 2 specimens with different CrO2 contents, prepared independently, are reported as giving concordant results, although no experimental details are given. |
