H2 or CO adsorbed at room temperature on ZnO-Cr2O3 catalysts was given off at 100°-120° but after 20-30 min. was readsorbed on the surface of the catalysts.  On raising the temperature further, no gas was given off up to 350°, when H2O or CO2 was liberated.  Physically adsorbed gas must leave the surface before it can chemically combine with metallic oxides.
