Commercial process (the Cedford gas process) is described of converting water gas into CH4 as follows:  CO+3H2=CH4+H2O.  In practice it is necessary to use 5 vol. H2 : 1 CO.  A water gas containing 40% CO, 4% CO2, 52% H2, and 4% N2 after going through the process, contained traces of CO and CO2, 30% CH4, 62% H2 and 6-7% N2.  The total cost was 8.5 d. per 1,000 cu. ft.
