After a general discussion of the chemical theory and the consumption of heat and O2, the author describes briefly technical processes for producing synthesis gas by gasification with O2-steam mixtures; that is, the Winkler producer, O2-steam gasification in vertical ovens, the Lurgi process under pressure, and also the effect of the formation of CH4 on the yield and composition of the gas.  It is claimed that gasification in vertical ovens at atmospheric pressure with O2-steam mixture produces a synthesis gas containing little CH4 with the smallest O2 consumption.
