King before the Midland Association of Gas Engineers. The chemical development of coal utilization is likely to be based on the Fischer-Tropsch process. Gases containing CO and H2, preferably in the ratio of 1:2, are purified from S to less than 0.1 grain per 100 cu. ft., and passed over a Co catalyst at temperatures between 175°-220° C. either at normal pressure or at 5-10 atm. Approximately 120 gm. of liquid product has been obtained per m.3 gas treated at atmospheric pressure or 150 gm. at 10 atm. Yields are as follows, in percent by weight: Medium Normal pressure pressure CH4.... ....................... 18....................... 11 C3+C4 hydrocarbons... 11................... 7 Oil below 200° C. ...... 43................... 21 200°-320° C............... 20....................... 28 Wax.... ..................... 8....................... 33 |
