     Comments on an address by J. T. King before the Midland Association of Gas Engineers.  The chemical development of coal utilization is likely to be based on the Fischer-Tropsch process.  Gases containing CO and H2, preferably in the ratio of 1:2, are purified from S to less than 0.1 grain per 100 cu. ft., and passed over a Co catalyst at temperatures between 175°-220° C. either at normal pressure or at 5-10 atm.  Approximately 120 gm. of liquid product has been obtained per m.3 gas treated at atmospheric pressure or 150 gm. at 10 atm.  Yields are as follows, in percent by weight:
