579. CLAUDE, G. [Present Situation With Respect to the Synthesis of Ammonia in Conjunction With Coke Ovens.] Compt. Rend., vol. 182, 1926, pp. 877-881; Chem. Abs., vol. 20, 1926, p. 2229. A phenomenon peculiar to this process and not previously described is the formation of MeOH during the conversion of CO (present as an impurity in the H2) to CH4 thus: CO+6H2→CH4+H2O. Up to 25% was found in the H2O of the reaction, having been formed by the reaction: CO+4H→C3OH. CLAUSMANN, P. See abs. 1168, 1169. |
