      A phenomenon peculiar to this process and not previously described is the formation of MeOH during the conversion of CO (present as an impurity in the H₂) to CH₄ thus:  CO+6H₂→CH₄+H₂O.  Up to 25% was found in the H₂O of the reaction, having been  formed by the reaction:  CO+4H→C₃OH.
