                   By passing CO and H₂ over Ni wool heated to 480°-500°, amounts of CH₂O were obtained that could be detected only by the most careful tests with Schiff’s reagent.  With CO₂ and H₂ and with CO, H₂, and steam appreciable quantities of CH₂O were obtained.
