By passing CO and H2 over Ni wool heated to 480°-500°, amounts of CH2O were obtained that could be detected only by the most careful tests with Schiff’s reagent.  With CO2 and H2 and with CO, H2, and steam appreciable quantities of CH2O were obtained.
