      On passing an electric current through a mixture of CO and H₂, after 5 hr. about 6% of CH₄ was detected in accordance with the reaction

CO+3H₂=CH₄+H₂O.

     On passing an electric current through a mixture of CO and H₂, the resultant gas was found to contain, besides H₂ and unchanged CO₂, some CO and CH₄ and an oily liquid identified as HCOOH.
