When finely divided ferric oxide is heated at 445° in sealed tubes with pure and dried CO, the decomposition of the latter is a function of the time and of the quantity of ferric oxide present. The quantity of CO2 formed increases regularly and eventually the decomposition is complete.  Similar experiments are being made with Co and Ni oxides at 445° and with all 3 oxides at higher temperatures.
