160.    ---------------.  [Destructive Action of Carbon Monoxide and of Gases Containing It.]  Chem. Fabrik, vol. 13, 1940, pp. 101-104; Chem. Abs., vol. 34, 1940, p. 6559.

Decomposition of CO into C and CO2 is accelerated by metals and by some oxides of metals.  Deposition of C occurs within the structure of the metal, weakening or even destroying it.  The temperature regions in which this action is appreciable are plotted for Fe, Fe2O3, Ni, NiO, Ni2O3, Cr, Mn, Co, and Co3O4.  The effect is smallest for Cr and Mn.
