Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable restriction of decomposition products to useful substances, such as a middle fraction, and efficiently obtain light oil at a low cost, by hydrotreating heavy oil in a suspended bed using an iron-supported and equilibrated fluid catalytic cracking catalyst prepared from an equilibrated liquid catalytic cracking catalyst taken out of a fluid catalytic cracker as a solid catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: Heavy oil is hydrotreated in a suspended bed using a solid catalyst. In the process, an iron-supported and equilibrated fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst prepared from an equilibrated (FCC) catalyst taken out of a fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) is added to the heavy oil and suspended therein and hydrotreatment of the resultant blend with a hydrogen-containing gas is carried out in a hydrogenation reactor 1 at 450oC temperature under 58 kg/cm2 G pressure. A concentrated slurry of catalyst particles and the heavy oil is then subjected to the solid-liquid separation. Oil is removed in a stripper 3 and catalyst particles are fed to a regeneration column 2 to regenerate the catalyst, which is then reused to hydrotreat the heavy oil and efficiently afford light oil.
