Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst capable of manufacturing selectively lower olefins from a synthesis gas by forming the catalyst consisting essentially of iron sodium metasilicate having a chemical composition of Na5FeSi4O12.

CONSTITUTION: A catalyst precursor consisting essentially of iron sodium metasilicate having a chemical composition of Na5FeSi4O12 is heat-treated at about 500oC for about 15 hr in a gaseous hydrogen stream at the flow rate of 100 ml/min to manufacture an activated catalyst capable of converting a synthesis gas. The activated catalyst is brought into contact with the synthesis gas at about 10 kg/cm2 total pressure, about 10,000 hr-1 GHSV, and 351-375oC, and the ratio of the lower olefin contained in 1-4 C lower hydrocarbons to the hydrocarbon reaches 80.6-91.7% with 1.5-7.8%, based on carbon, CO conversion efficiency and 1.2-4.8% effective conversion efficiency.
