ABSTRACT:

At the present state of knowledge a detailed comparison of the different processes of coal-refining (e.g. Bergius-Pier, Mobil-Oil, Fischer Tropsch) cannot be carried out. The economics of the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis highly depends on the enhancement of products of technical interest as C sub 2 -C sub 4 -olefines. To get new insights into the mechanism of the Fischer-Tropsch reactions and the distribution of its reaction products on their C-numbers we did investigate the F.T.-synthesis in a laboratory scale reactor, the hydrogenation and the hydrolysis of F.T. catalysts, and the adsorption and desorption of reactants and intermediates. The investigation resulted in the formulation of a reaction mechanism involving carbidic C-atoms. From this mechanism the distribution of the reaction products can be deduced. The validity of this mechanism is demonstrated by the analysis of numerous F.T.-product spectra. (ERA citation 08:001511)
