ABSTRACT:

Industrial-scale use of natural gas as a feedstock for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is possible with air as an oxidant if the natural gas price is low enough to permit low efficiency. For the catalytic conversion of natural gas into synthesis gas (nickel catalyst), a semi-industrial, near-adiabatic plant with a rated throughput of 9 m (3) /h was constructed. The following parameters were investigated: influence of total pressure, air ratio, inlet temperature, steam supply, and catalyst effect. Reaction-kinetic investigations of gas reformation were carried out in a laboratory-scale apparatus. A model was derived for calculating throughput, yield, and temperature curves along the reformation zone of the catalyst bed. (Copyright (c) 1993 by FIZ. Citation no. 93:000233.)
