ABSTRACT:

Calculations are made of the energy requirements of converting coal to liquid fuels. The processes treated in the study include (1) coal liquefication by direct hydrogenation, (2) motor fuel production by the CSF extraction hydrogenation process, (3) synthetic crude oil via coal pyrolysis, (4) motor fuel production by the Fischer-Tropsch process, and (5) methanol production by the Fischer-Tropsch process.
