ABSTRACT:

The influence of the reduction procedure on free carbon formation over iron catalysts has been examined. Based on an analysis of the partial pressure dependence of the rates of hydrocarbon and carbon dioxide formation after different reduction procedures, it is suggested that as the severity of reduction conditions increases, the rate of carbon formation and the rate of the water gas shift reaction increase. The synthesis reaction rate also increases, but appears to reach an upper limit. 3 figures, 4 tables. (ERA citation 10:020118)
