Through an incandescent body of fine grained solid fuel, such as fine coke, a gasifying agent, such as O₂ is blown at 1 place of introduction (in a described apparatus) and at the same time from another relatively distant place of introduction, there is blown through the fuel a combustible gas, such as water gas and steam having a lower temperature than the incandescent fuel body, the gasifying agent and combustible gas being introduced with such speed that a boiling action is established in the incandescent fuel body.
