3938.            WOBKER, B. F. (Phillips Petroleum Co.).  Treatment of Fluids With Comminuted Solids. United States Patent 2,456,035, Dec. 14, 1948; appl. filed Jan. 2, 1948, Serial No. 222; 11 Claims (Cl. 196-52).  Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 5,579.

Two similar chambers each containing powdered catalyst are used alternately on conversion and on reactivation.  A 3d chamber is used for catalyst storage.  The conversion step is started in 1 chamber containing approximately 1/3 of the total catalyst that is to be used ultimately.  The activity is maintained by means of added fresh catalyst continuously introduced with the feed.  The catalyst is kept in a fluidized state.  Conversion continues until the catalyst level has risen to a predetermined maximum.  Conversion is diverted to the 2d chamber, and the 1st is purged and the catalyst reactivated.  Reactivation gases carry catalyst to the supplementary storage chamber until the catalyst level in the 1st chamber is lowered sufficiently for the next conversion step.  In Fischer-Tropsch synthesis the Fe catalyst that has been deactivated by wax deposits is reactivated by treatment with H2 at temperatures up to 800° C.  5 United States patents cited.
