3927.            WIETZEL, R., SPEER, W., AND KAEHLER, H.  (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.).  Hydrocarbons of High-Boiling-Point Range Suitable for Use As Lubricating Oils.  United States Patent 1,798,288, Mar. 31, 1931; appl. filed Aug. 23, 1928, Serial No. 301,698.  Chem. Abs., vol. 25, 1931, p. 3160.

Mixture of oxides of C and H2 is subjected to treatment with a catalyst containing, in addition to a metal of group 8 of the periodic system such as Fe and Co, a quantity of an alkali-metal compound, such as Na having, an alkalinity not substantially greater than that of Na2CO3 and comprising less than 0.5 part, calculated as alkali metal, per 100 parts of the group 8 metal; the treatment is effected at temperatures of 270°-350°, and the resulting hydrocarbons of low-boiling-point range are subjected to a treatment under  pressure at temperatures <250° in the presence of an inorganic anhydrous halide having a condensing action such as AlCl3 which, when treated with H2O, causes strong evolution of heat.
