3920.  WIETZEL, G., STARKE, A., AND EISENHUT, O. (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.). [Carbon Monoxide And Hydrogen From Hydrocarbons.] German Patent 488,502, Apr. 16, 1926. Chem. Abs., vol. 24, 1930, p. 2.251.

Gaseous hydrocarbons or gas mixtures containing them are partly oxidized or electrically treated to form, in part, unsaturated hydrocarbons; these may be removed and the remaining gas made to react with H2O vapor or O2 or both to form mixtures of CO and H2 for synthesis of MeOH and higher alcohols, or the CO may be oxidized to CO2 and removed, leaving only H2.
