3917.  WIETZEL, G., AND WINKLER, K. (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.). [Oxygenated Organic Compounds.] German Patent 488,156, Apr. 12, 1923. Chem. Zentralb., 1930, I, p. 2,040; Chem. Abs., vol. 24, 1930, p. 2,137.

Water gas and like mixtures of CO and H2 to be used for the manufacture of MeOH by catalytic reaction at a high temperature and pressure are preliminarily purified by treatment with steam in the presence of a catalyst promoting the production of H2 and C2 from CO and H2O. This treatment decomposes organic S compounds in the gas mixture and yields H2S, which is removed with the CO2. Gives example. Addition to German patent 396,115 (abs. 113).
