In synthesizing higher alcohols, aldehydes, acids, or similar higher molecular compounds containing O, CO is caused to act on vaporized MeOH, EtOH or other vaporized aliphatic alcohol at an elevated pressure and temperature; for example, 200 atm. and 420° and in the presence of a catalyst such as one containing alkali, Cr, and Mo.
